Conflict is hard
Conflict is hard! It feels like being punched in the gut while having spiders crawl all over your body. Our nervous systems are wired to avoid discomfort for our survival, so it makes sense we turn away from conflict. We’ve seen dreams, organizations, and movements crumble because we, or people we love, couldn’t find a way through a difficult conflict with a comrade or a colleague.
We also know that turning towards each other when in conflict—though it may be messy and uncomfortable—yields many gifts.
We believe that when embraced, conflict can clarify strategy, increase racial justice, and catalyze learning, healing, and transformation all of which are necessary for principled struggle.
We believe that it is possible to design for harmony, so that conflict doesn’t compound, and we set ourselves up well to move toward liberatory visions together.
